THE WELLBEING COACH
A SMEAC VETERAN HUB SERVICE
To address the issues noted above and enhance and strengthen the current system, SMEAC will have Wellbeing Coach’s as part of its model.
The role of the Wellbeing Coach is to educate, guide and empower the veteran to take ownership of the DVA process. The model is based on a Tell Me / Show Me / Let Me process that facilitates the following successful outcomes:
The Coach will ensure the SMEAC Action Plan is realistic, comprehensive and fit for purpose
The Coaching model enhances the veterans mental wellbeing by facilitating a healthier proactive approach as opposes to a negative, adversarial one
The veteran becomes more and more self-sufficient, reducing DVA costs (significant over time – hundreds of millions of dollars)
The SMEAC Wellbeing Coach concept is not designed to replace the Advocacy system. Indeed for many veterans, the Advocates in their areas may be well suitable for their needs. The Coach is SMEAC’s response to the issues observed above and will work as an enhanced capability and additional option for the veteran.
Wellbeing Coach’s will be trained by a professional Trainer who has extensive Experience (30yrs) working in Health within Defence and later for almost 10 years at DVA, and as a Coach after leaving DVA. Coach’s will be experienced, trained, remunerated and work in a flexible work environment thus ensuring longevity and continuity.
Wellbeing Coach’s will be located at the Wellbeing Centre, Satellite offices and Mobile Overwatch Teams. They can be engaged face to face or over the phone.
A place for veterans and their families to get help, support & access the services they need.
